Full Biography
A lifetime of songs, stages, and miles
Tim McGeary began traveling the world in his early twenties as a merchant marine — and he's never really stopped. The songs started in New Jersey, sharpened in the New York club scene of CBGB's, Trax, and Danceteria, and broke through when his band The Rescue signed to A&M Records and recorded their first vinyl in London with producer Tony Mansfield (Naked Eyes).
The road that followed is the stuff of songwriter legend: tours alongside Billy Idol, Roxy Music, Depeche Mode, and The Cure, and opening slots for The Black Crowes, David Ball, Confederate Railroad, Wet Willie, and more. When the band chapter closed, Tim kept writing — releasing two solo CDs as “Wonderful Johnson,” then heading to Memphis to record “Authentic Memphis Samich” with producer John Hampton (Gin Blossoms), followed by “12” and “Second Hand Saint” with producer Ray Nesbit.
Hollywood and Nashville came calling. Tim's songs landed on Smallville, One Tree Hill, and Glory Days, and in the films Girl Got Moe (HBO), The Knowers, In Mysterious Ways, and American Confederate (2019, “When We Fight”). He co-wrote “Wrong Number” for the William Shatner & Jeff Cook album Why Not Me, earned #1 Song of the Year at the 2018 Josie Awards for “Trouble in Love” (Cash Creek, Country Pop Duo of the Year), and saw “Lightning Walk” submitted for Grammy consideration in 2019. He holds a Nashville songwriting publishing deal and has had songs recorded by many artists.
Parallel to the music runs a life of service: Tim is a retired Collier County firefighter, paramedic, and flight medic who was deployed to New York City after the 9/11 attacks. Today, Naples has been home for more than twenty years. He performs across Southwest Florida, Nashville, and Europe — Denmark, Spain, France, and Germany — plays the songwriter-festival circuit including Island Hopper, and mentors young songwriters, passing on a lifetime of craft from first verse to publishing deal.
